Mustard Pots

Mustard Pots

My first choice of making pots is throwing them on the potter’s wheel and during my early days of honing my skill, I also wanted to try other ways of making work. Slip casting always fascinated me - a liquid clay body slip poured into plaster moulds and allowed to form a layer on the inside walls of the mould. When I saw a plaster mould for this little jar, I saw a lot of possibilities - it was sold as a mustard pot mould. I thought, just because I don’t like mustard, it does not mean I cannot slip cast mustard pots! A wooden carved spoon from Kenya gave the mustard pot an added appeal.
