I am a Muslim and I was taught to read and write Arabic. I always thought that Arabic calligraphy had the most wonderful fluidity and I wanted to incorporate this in my porcelain work. I make porcelain bowls and these are decorated with ceramic transfers which depict Arabic calligraphy. Most of the caligraphy seen in my work has been taken from my prayer books. I have then taken a photograph of this and then uploaded the image on the computer. I have used photoshop to edit the caligraphy to accommodate in the different forms that I make. I then send these images to a company who produces ceramic transfers or decals for me.
